1. How often should I expect a fire code inspection?

The goal for the Everett Fire Department was a 2 year inspection cycle for small business and 1 year for large buildings, schools and building storing hazardous materials.

2. I received a fire code inspection but the neighboring business did not. How come?

There are several reasons why a business may get an inspection. It could be an uncorrected deficiency from a previous inspection, a reported violation, a reported fire protection system deficiency, and so on. The best answer for your specific business will come from the fire inspectors themselves.

3. Where can I get my fire extinguisher recharged or inspected & tagged?

Please check your local telephone directory or internet search for fire extinguisher service. The Everett Fire Department does not recharge or inspect & tag fire extinguishers. To dispose of your fire extinguisher please check with Snohomish County Hazardous Waste

4. Do I really need so many fire extinguishers?

With some exceptions, the minimum quantity of fire extinguishers required is enough to meet the requirement for one on each level and no more than 75’ of foot travel distance from anywhere on the same level to a fire extinguisher.

5. What is wrong with using extension cords or multiple power strips "daisy chained" together?

The fire code prohibits using extension cords in place of permanent wiring. It also prohibits interconnecting of power strips. Power strips must be connected directly to a permanent electrical outlet. The primary issue is that a product must be used in accordance with it's listing. 6. How can I get my daycare or pre-school inspected?

Please contact the Everett Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office. We routinely do not inspect daycare's in private homes, but we will do a courtesy fire safety inspection.

7. How do I report overcrowding in a business assembly event?

If it is an emergency you should call 911. Otherwise call the Fire Marshal's Office, 425-257-8120 Or contact the Fire Marshal using the “contact us” link in the right column.

8. How to I report a locked or blocked exit?

To report blocked exits, locked emergency doors, contact the Everett Fire Marshal's Office at 425-257-8120 during business hours or forward a detailed e-mail message to FMO@everettwa.gov. For marked exits that are blocked or locked during an event or in a venue with large numbers of people, call 911.
