Mayor's cornerJust when we thought we had safely made it through the worst of the fire season, we now find our city blanketed in smoky haze, as a result of dozens of wildfires that rapidly developed this week throughout the Pacific Northwest. My heart goes out to the all of the northwest communities being devastated by fires, and I am grateful to the brave first responders who are out there battling the blazes. Due to these fires, our local air quality is impacted and expected to worsen over the weekend, so please be sure to check pscleanair.gov for updated information. This layers one public health and safety crisis over another. So as you do what you need to be safe in this environment as it relates to air quality, please also continue to follow all safety measures related to the pandemic. Together we can do all that we can to help keep our more vulnerable residents and our city safe. Take good care. Warmly, Mayor Cassie

Burn ban for Snohomish CountyAs wildfires spread across the Pacific Northwest, it’s important to take precautions to keep yourself, your loved ones and your community safe. There is currently a red flag warning for fire conditions in Snohomish County. Due to the high risk of wildfires, the Snohomish County Fire Marshall banned all outdoor burning until further notice, except for charcoal barbecues and gas grills.
