City of Everett COVID-19 update
Mayor's message

Cities are at the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our city has been working hard to do its part to slow the spread of this deadly virus and protect public health, while also providing core services to our community. I’d like to thank our first responders, our healthcare workers, our essential businesses and each of you for your continued support! Each day that you’re staying home and staying healthy, you are saving lives. Thank you.

I know this isn’t easy. We’ve all had to make sacrifices and we’ve faced many difficult decisions. The impacts of this on our economy, workforce and overall way of life are deep and far-reaching, and we don’t yet know the full extent. Thankfully we are starting to see some emergency assistance coming in to help us cope with these impacts. This includes benefits for workers, families and businesses. You can find a robust list on the State’s coronavirus website.

While these resources are a tremendous help for many, they are not enough.

Through the U.S. Conference of Mayors, I am joining leaders across the country to raise awareness of the very dire situation cities face. Together we’re advocating for all cities fighting this pandemic and experiencing serious financial losses to receive federal assistance.

Cities are all in this together. The City of Everett is more than our staff and services, facilities and programs. It’s each and every one of us who call Everett home. From our small businesses and non-profits, to our large employers and schools: together we will come through this stronger and more resilient than ever. Thank you for your continued support of this work.

Regional updates

West Coast states stand united

Governor Jay Inslee announced yesterday an agreement with Oregon and California on a shared vision for reopening West Coast economies and controlling COVID-19 into the future. The three governors issued a joint statement outlining their agreement to work together to restart public life and business while putting public health first.

The dos and don’ts of staying home

We’re all doing our part to stay home and stay healthy to slow the spread of COVID-19. Staying home and social distancing are working to flatten the curve, but it is more important than ever that we all keep it up to continue our progress. The Washington State Department of Health compiled a list of stay-home dos and don’ts to help guide you and your loved ones through this difficult time. Remember: staying home saves lives.

Help is out there

These are difficult times for many, and individuals, families and households who have been impacted by COVID-19 are not alone. Snohomish County created a community resource hub with a list of resources available to people in Snohomish County. Find assistance with food, finances, employment, medical care, childcare, shelter and more. The Everett Public Library also has a list of community resources available to anyone in need of assistance, including social services, business resources, internet resources, landlord and tenant resources, financial help and unemployment resources.

Puget Sound Energy offers bill assistance

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is offering help to customers who have been impacted by COVID-19, including customers who recently became unemployed, partially unemployed, or cannot work. This program will be available to PSE’s residential customers in Island, King, Kitsap, Kittitas, Lewis, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish, Thurston and Whatcom counties who meet the household size and income criteria.

What you can do
Don't leave your trash at the park

Be a good park steward

Temperatures are warming up and the outdoors may be calling. Exercise is an important part of health and wellness, but exercising responsibly during a pandemic is vital to the health and safety of our community. Before heading out for some fresh air, we ask community members to be mindful of changes to our parks and follow public health guidelines from state and local health officials. Being a good park steward includes leaving no trace when you visit parks. Bring your belongings and trash home with you instead of leaving them at the park.

Volunteer

Everett Emergency Management, in cooperation with Snohomish County, is looking for volunteers to assist local food banks and meal distribution sites. Opportunities exist throughout the county and they are looking for volunteers for these vital programs. Several emergency management volunteers have already responded and jumped in to help. Fill out the volunteer interest form and the Snohomish County Emergency Coordination Center will contact you with available openings.

Volunteers needed

Donate homemade face coverings

CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain to help reduce the likelihood that you are spreading COVID-19. If you can make face coverings for your household, check with your neighbors to see if they need help. Many don’t have the equipment, supplies or knowledge to make a face covering. Community members can also make face coverings for the greater Everett and Snohomish County community. Learn how to make, donate and use face coverings in Snohomish County. Volunteers of America asks that donors package individual masks into resealable bags before donating.
