EVERETT – See Forest Park, and your own abilities, in a new way by taking the 2015 Hill Climb Challenge this summer. Measure your progress from one, 30-minute timed event to the next.
“The hill climbs are a great way to explore parts of the park that you’ve probably never seen,” said Paul Kaftanski, parks director. “Do the climb more than once, and see if you can go farther and faster each time!”
Each mid-week, lunchtime event challenges participants to traverse the park’s hilly, wooded trails. The mapped trail includes 12 hills of various heights and grades, and participants can choose which events to join in.
Pick an event – or do them all
The hill climbs will take place one Wednesday a month on the following dates: May 20, June 17, July 15, Aug. 19 and Sept. 16. Every climb begins with registration at 11:45 a.m. and check in at noon – both at the picnic shelter at Forest Park, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd. The timed events begin at 12:15 p.m.
Participants, ages 14 and older, may register individually or form three-person teams. Past teams have included officemates, friends and family. Children, ages six and up, can run with an adult. Strollers are not allowed.
Achieve Hill Climb greatness
Park staff will present awards for best team and individual participation and most hills climbed at the final event in September.
A $5 suggested donation per participant, per event supports outdoor programs. Registration is required.
