EVERETT – After arresting a suspect, the Everett Police Department continues investigating an arson that trapped a woman inside her home.
Just before 6 a.m. yesterday, September 20, 2016, officers responded to the 1200 block of Poplar St when a resident reported a fire on her porch and front door. The female believed the 55 year-old father of her adult children intentionally set the fire and was waiting outside to kill her but he fled to avoid capture. Everett Fire extinguished the blaze which was at the only entrance to the residence.
Officers had been at the same address a few hours earlier on a reported disturbance. The female told investigating officers the two have relationship issues and the father had made previous threats to kill her. Prior to the fire, the father threatened the female, “I’m doing it.”
The 50 year-old female was transported with non-life threatening injuries to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.
Based on physical evidence, detectives believe the fire was intentionally set. The father was found at about 6:30 p.m. last night, arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail on probable cause for arson - domestic violence (RCW 9A.48.020).
