[ARCHIVED] Everett Police take over SCSO shooting investigation

Everett Patch

Arlington, WA – Everett Police major crime detectives have assumed the ongoing investigation in a fatal shooting of an Arlington man by a homeowner.

Early on the morning of June 5th Snohomish County Sheriff Deputies responded to the 19800 block of 106th Ave NE after reports of an attempted break in and a shooting. When deputies arrived on scene, they contacted the homeowner and a 19-year-old male who had been shot twice. The male was transported to the hospital for medical treatment but did not survive.

The investigation revealed that the male who had been shot was at a nearby graduation party the night before and at some point, left the party alone. The homeowner stated that he had heard pounding on his rear laundry room door and believed someone was trying to break into his residence. The homeowner opened his slider adjacent to the backdoor where he observed a shirtless stranger, pounding on his back door.   The homeowner told the male that he was armed and instructed him to leave his property. The male instead started to advance on the homeowner, who was still inside his residence.  The homeowner continued to tell the male to leave from the opened slider door. After the male continued to advance on the homeowner, he fired at the male causing injuries that ultimately resulted in his death.

The homeowner immediately requested his wife call 911 for assistance as the male was injured and needed medical assistance.

As the investigation continued it was revealed the deceased male was a relative of a member of the Sheriff’s office. SCSO contacted Everett Police asking for an independent investigation. Everett PD major crimes detectives responded to the location and took over the scene, and released SCSO from further involvement in the investigation. The homeowner has been cooperative and is currently not in custody.
