[ARCHIVED] A 10-Year Happy Tail

Ten years ago, Angie and Adam adopted a kitten. They were young and their relationship was new, but Meeka was loved and little family of three enjoyed some time together before the young couple split up. In an effort to do what was best for Meeka, they surrendered her to an adoption center in their hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio where Meeka was adopted out to a new family.
Several months later, the young couple reunited. They went on to marry, buy a home and adopted a new cat and dog, always wondering about Meeka and hoping she was happy and loved.

On March 30, 2021 a small, orange and white kitty was brought to EAS after she was found on the streets alone. She was healthy and friendly and staff went to work to reunite her with her family. Her microchip led to a number in Ohio where the recipient at first thought he was receiving a spam call. This small cat was Meeka, and her microchip was still registered to Adam and Angie.

The couple immediately agreed that Meeka had a place in their family and called the adoption center in Ohio to make sure her second family wasn't missing her. The microchip was never re-registered and their records did not date back 10 years. We'll never know how Meeka made it to Everett, WA from Ohio! Adam and Angie cancelled an April trip they had planned and instead booked flights to Washington to be reunited with Meeka.

"And then the long awaited April 22nd comes along and we finally get to be reunited with our baby! I'll never forget that moment when I got to hold her again and she just immediately started to give me love. We were sobbing with joy on being able to see her again."

Stories like are made possible by the community of donors who support the animals in our care. Like most animals that come our way, we don't know Meeka's entire story, but we know she deserves a happy ending, even 10 years later. Thank you for supporting the homeless pets that have no where else to turn, it is because of you that they can receive care, time and love while they wait to be adopted or reunited with their families.
