[ARCHIVED] Everett seeks public input on 2021 Public Right-of-Way ADA Transition Plan

Pedestrian crosswalk at Rucker and Hewitt

EVERETT, Wash. – The City of Everett is asking for feedback to finalize its 2021 Public Right-of-Way (ROW) ADA Transition Plan. To receive community input, the City has launched an online open house at everettwa.gov/ADAopenhouse.

The plan provides a framework to improve pedestrian facilities within the city ROW to ensure accessibility for people with disabilities. Pedestrian facilities include sidewalks, paths, curb ramps and pedestrian signals/push buttons.

“The online open house is meant to be a way to learn about how Everett will make these improvements,” said Christina Anna Curtis, transportation engineer. “It’s also a place where people can tell us about accessibility barriers they find in the community so we can incorporate the public’s needs into the plan.”

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

The ADA, enacted on July 26, 1990, provides comprehensive civil rights protections to persons with disabilities. Title II of the ADA requires public transportation, state and local government agencies to ensure that their programs, services and facilities are accessible to individuals with disabilities.

Community members are encouraged to visit the online open house at everettwa.gov/ADAopenhouse throughout the month of March for more information and to report barriers.
