[ARCHIVED] Firefighters battle house fire, homeowner injured

Firefighters respond to house fire where homeowner was burned in the 5000 block of Sperry Lane.

EVERETT, WA – Firefighters were dispatched at 7:56 p.m. on Monday evening to a residential structure fire at the 5000 block of Sperry Lane in central Everett. A resident, in his 60’s, is in critical condition for burns he received in the fire.

Reportedly, the male homeowner was welding outside in a space between the house and the garage when some sparks ignited some nearby combustible sources, which started the fire and then got out of control. Firefighters arrived on the scene to find a working house fire with flames coming from the roof. Both homeowners self-evacuated from the residence.

While firefighters worked to control the blaze, Everett Police assisted the injured homeowner in meeting up with fire and medical personnel, who provided medical attention to the burned victim at the scene and then transported him to Harborview Medical Center.

Fire crews remained on the scene for several hours after the fire was extinguished to monitor the incident and address any hotspots.

An Everett Fire Investigator was called to the scene. The loss of the fire is estimated at $300K.
