Last Friday, Snohomish County reached a milestone, moving from Phase 1 to Phase 2 of the Governor’s Safe Start reopening plan. We still have a ways to go before we move on to other phases that allow larger gatherings (only up to five people are able to gather under Phase 2), and a minimum of 3 weeks must pass before moving to the next phase. Due to the current situation, no grand opening event has been planned yet. We do look forward to celebrating the completion of the bridge and the connection between Grand Avenue Park and the waterfront with all of you as soon as possible.
Work has continued to progress very well toward the finish line. Please keep in mind that the work is still affected by the ability for subcontractors, suppliers and agencies to provide skilled labor, materials and approvals. As such, the goal for completion of construction is currently the end of July, acknowledging that this goal can be impacted and potentially delayed by unpredictable COVID-related factors.
It remains important not to enter the construction worksite. Please wait for completion of the project and do not access the bridge.
Below is a summary and photos of progress made in the latter part of May and early June:
- Guardrail work continued with installation of frames and aluminum panels capped off with top channels. Electrical wiring and lighting is installed under the top channels.
- Guardrail work will begin on the stairs that wrap around the elevator tower.
- Lifts were used to remove the wood false deck. This involved access over the railroad tracks.
- Adjustments to the exterior lights of the bridge will take place tomorrow night, with lifts working on both the highway and the railroad tracks. This will involve lane closures from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. on West Marine View Drive.
- Next week, BNSF Railway is anticipated to remove the private construction crossing.
- Elevator work continued, and an elevator service contract is being executed.
- Drainage work is in progress.
- Paving and striping of the parking lot around the elevator tower is currently anticipated in late June. The current traffic control will continue through the end of the project.
- Sidewalks, stairs, and block walls were completed at the park entrance to the bridge. Concrete curb and asphalt pavement were installed along Grand Avenue.
- Coordination for irrigation system installation, park railing, topsoil and landscaping is taking place between the contractor and Everett Parks.
- If you witness vandalism in progress or people on the bridge please call the police.
