[ARCHIVED] Everett parks gates, off-leash areas and recreation amenities closed until further notice

City of Everett COVID-19 update

EVERETT, Wash. – Everett Parks & Community Services will close all Everett parks gates today in response to COVID-19 and Governor Jay Inslee’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order. Park gates, restrooms, amenities and active areas such as sports courts, ball fields, playgrounds, boat launches, skate parks, beaches and off-leash areas are closed until further notice.

The goal of limiting park access is to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and limit its exposure by encouraging social distancing. Open park areas are open to walkers who follow public health guidelines and social distancing rules. Groups, gatherings and crowds are prohibited under Governor Inslee’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order. Park rangers will continue to patrol parks to ensure public safety.

“We recognize how important exercise is for health and wellness, so if residents do go for a walk, ride their bike or walk their dog on a leash, we ask them to do so from a safe distance of others,” said Lori Cummings, executive director of Everett Parks. “The best way to slow the spread of COVID-19 is by eliminating non-essential interactions and encouraging residents to walk in areas near where they live.”

Earlier this month, Everett Parks & Community Services announced additional facility closures and cancelled or postponed all parks programs until further notice, including events, activities, facility rentals, trips, classes and preschool. Registered participants will receive full refunds.

City staff continue to follow guidance from federal, state and local health officials, and will reopen parks and facilities when the public health risk has passed.
