[ARCHIVED] Mayor Franklin’s statement in response to Boeing’s announcement to temporarily suspend operations

Mayor edit

EVERETT, Wash. – Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin issued the following statement in response to Boeing’s announcement to temporarily suspend operations in response to escalating COVID-19 pandemic:

“My heart goes out to the family and friends of the Boeing worker, and city of Everett resident, who passed away from COVID-19, and to everyone in our community who is feeling the impacts of this virus. This disease is touching more and more lives every day.

Boeing has impacts far beyond Everett – they provide critical transportation infrastructure for the world and our national defense.

In light of the state of emergency, I am grateful to Boeing for making what I know was not an easy decision to temporarily suspend operations at its Puget Sound area facilities. Throughout the past few weeks they’ve made considerable efforts to ensure the safety and hygiene of their production facilities. Closing the production facility, however, will further reduce the potential to spread COVID-19. I thank them for taking this step to help keep our residents and workers healthy and safe.
