[ARCHIVED] COVID-19 update: City facility closures and service changes

EVERETT, Wash. – To help slow the spread of COVID-19 in the community and minimize its potential exposure to vulnerable demographics, the City of Everett announced additional facility closures, service changes and cancelled/postponed events and programs.

New City facility closures:

Both Everett Public Library branches will close at 6 p.m. Friday, March 13 until at least March 31. Though facilities will be closed to the public, Library services will continue including two new pilot service models: curbside pickup and home delivery. Library card holders can also access a variety of online Library resources including e-books, audiobooks, digital magazines, movies, music and more. Learn more at

Permit Services and Utility Services public counters will temporarily close at the end of the day Friday, March 13, until further notice. Permit Services staff will be available during regular business hours via phone, email and postal mail, and encourage community members to utilize Permit Services’ online resources, Quick Resource Guide and information at

Online payments for utility services can be made at, and staff are available by telephone to assist with account management Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check and/or money order payments can be made through its Cedar Street drop-boxes (south side of 3101 Cedar St. and the front entrance to 3200 Cedar St.).

Additional facility closures:

  • The Everett Police South Precinct is closed to the public through April 30.
  • The Forest Park Swim Center is closed through March 31.
  • The Carl Gipson Senior Center is temporarily closed until further notice. They will continue to provide lunches through the Homage senior lunch program.

Service changes:

Program and event cancellations:

  • All City of Everett events are cancelled through March 31.
  • All Parks & Community Services programs, including events, trips, classes and preschool, are cancelled through March 31. Registered participants will receive full refunds.
  • All March City Boards & Commissions meetings are cancelled.
  • Fire Station 4 Public Meeting Room March events are cancelled.

How community members can help slow the spread of the virus and protect themselves, loved ones and the community:

  • Stay informed.
  • Wash your hands often and for at least 20 seconds with soap and water.
  • Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.
  • Stay home if you are not feeling well.
  • Visit the CDC, Department of Health and Snohomish Health District websites to learn more.

Community members are encouraged to call ahead if unsure about a program, service or facility schedule.
