Thanks to you, 2020 will be Lucinda's brightest year yet.

Lucinda

In March, Lucinda was found running the streets as a stray and dropped off at our shelter. Although we knew nothing of her history, it was immediately apparent Lucinda couldn’t see well, if at all. She was skittish and moved cautiously while bumping into walls and items around her. We could only imagine the fear she was living in, alone on the streets. We suspected Lucinda was born with congenital cataracts that had gone untreated and left her almost completely blind. Because she couldn’t see, Lucinda was nervous, stressed, lacked confidence and could be difficult to handle.

Our veterinarian consulted with an eye specialist and learned that not only did Lucinda have cataracts, but her eyes did not develop normally, and her right eye was untreatable. Hoping to help Lucinda regain some of her vision, we decided to schedule cataract surgery for her left eye.

After her procedure, Lucinda spent time recovering with a loving foster family, who graciously drove her to many follow up appointments in Seattle. Lucinda’s eye healed well, and as her vision slowly improved, so did her confidence. The shy, nervous dog we met weeks earlier was blossoming and we felt she was finally ready for a permanent family of her own.

Because she was still at risk of developing glaucoma and required daily eye drops, we knew it would be difficult to find Lucinda the perfect home. Your support ensured she could stay with us for as long as she needed, and in October, seven months after arriving at our shelter, Lucinda found her family. Lucinda now spends her days lounging on the couch and soaking up all the love she deserves, her lonely and dark days wandering the streets are far behind her.

The funds to pay for Lucinda’s surgery, eye drops, pain medications and so much more were only made possible by your generous donations. It is because of you that this transformation was possible, and Lucinda was given a second chance when she had nowhere else to turn. While we can’t say her vision is 20/20, we can say this year will be her best and brightest so far, thanks to you!
