Everett, WA - Local law enforcement to spread cheer with children during a holiday shopping experience at the Everett Target.
This week, the Everett Police Officers Association will host the 5th Annual Shop with a Cop event (previously known as “Heroes & Helpers”) to give local children an opportunity to purchase holiday gifts at Everett Target. This special event sponsors over 200 Snohomish County children with a night that includes pizza, pictures with Santa and shopping for holiday presents with officers. This year, Mill Creek Police and Mukilteo Police will join in the festivities.
“Last year we raised enough money to help over 175 children. But this holiday season, our local businesses, family and friends have been overwhelming in their generosity. I’m so happy to say that because of the donations, even more children will get the opportunity to attend,” says event organizer Det. Jamie French. “Every year, Shop with a Cop has grown and given us the opportunity to help more deserving children in Snohomish County. I am extremely thankful to everyone who plays a part in this event - including donors, police officers, volunteers and the Everett Target.”
The children who participate have been pre-selected and referred to the program by area social service providers. They range in age from one month to 17 years-old.
“This isn’t just fun for the kids, it’s also fun for the officers and volunteers who help with the event. To see the smiles and hear laughter throughout Target is priceless,” says Det. French. “Nights like these are heartwarming as we see how many children purchase gifts for others, rather than for themselves. We get to witness the true holiday spirit.”
