[ARCHIVED] Everett seeks volunteers to serve on City boards, commissions

Diversity board 2019 with Mayor Cassie

EVERETT – The City of Everett is seeking volunteers who have the desire to make a positive impact on their community by serving on a board or commission. Community members are encouraged to apply for open positions on multiple boards.

Community engagement and inclusion are top priorities for our work at the City, especially engaging those not currently connected with us,” said Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin. “Everett is rich in diversity of cultures, experiences and faith, and I look forward to including all of those voices in the City’s work.”

Terms are two, four or six years and volunteers must be current residents of Everett. Franklin will review the applications and make recommendations to the City Council for approval.

Interested volunteers can complete an application on the City’s website at everettwa.gov/boardsapply. Applications are also available at the Mayor’s office at 2930 Wetmore Ave, Suite 10-A. Applications should be completed online or returned to the Mayor’s office by 5 p.m., Dec. 1, 2019.

Openings include:

  • Citizens Advisory Board: The Citizen’s Advisory Board originated to promote citizen participation for Community Development Block Grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This board is responsible for creating Everett’s five-year Consolidated Plan and one-year Action Plan, which are required to receive funding from HUD, and meets annually to prioritize the City’s current human needs, review grant applications, and vote on allocation of funds to nonprofit agencies that render services in Everett to residents. The board meets regularly throughout the year and members serve six-year terms.
  • Diversity Advisory Board: This board advises the Mayor on diversity, equity and inclusion issues and activities within the city. The board meets the third Monday of most months at 4 p.m. Members serve two to four-year terms.
  • Senior Center Advisory Board: This board gives input on various projects and assists in events to raise money for the Carl Gipson Senior Center. The board meets the third Tuesday of each month at 8 a.m. Members serve six-year terms.
  • Transportation Advisory Committee: This committee advises the City on transit services, long-range transportation planning and traffic safety planning. The committee meets the third Thursday of each month at 8 a.m. Members serve six-year terms.
