EVERETT, WA – Summer activities are in full swing, filling Everett’s favorite spaces with art, music and fun. Cool off, catch a show and relax into the whimsy of summer.

Shows & concerts

If those top-20 hits are getting old, discover new favorites at Everett’s free Children’s Concert Series at Thornton A. Sullivan Park, 11405 Silver Lake Road, Thursdays 10-11 a.m. through Aug. 22. Round up kids of all ages and arrive a little early for a good spot on the lawn to enjoy these light-hearted, outdoor shows and stay for a picnic lunch and beach time at Silver Lake.

With the kids worn out, escape to the city’s best waterfront dance party Thursday evenings through Aug. 29, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Port Gardner Landing, 1700 W. Marine View Dr. Watch the sun dip over sail boats during Music at the Marina. Pack a picnic or grab a tasty bite from a food truck and wine or brews at the Marina Beer Garden.

Friday night movies

Cinema Under the Stars brings box office hits to Thornton A. Sullivan Park on Friday nights through Aug. 16. Arrive early with low lawn chairs or blankets for prime spot selection. Free admission includes family-friendly pre-show entertainment beginning at 7:30 p.m. Movies start at dusk. Pack a picnic or bring cash for snacks.

Art & learning

Piano tunes fill the streets of downtown Aug. 7-27 during Street Tunes. Join the interactive art experience by tickling the keys or applauding brave composers at the 13 decorated pianos stationed in and around downtown.

If outdoor music inspires wanderlust, escape to literary realms at Everett Public Library. From binge-worthy books to fun events galore, the library is your defense against summer slump. Children of all ages can join the summer reading challenge to earn a free book and entry into a grand prize drawing to meet Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin. Adults can join the year-long reading challenge in progress and post pictures of book selections.

Summer Destinations

With a splish-splash here and a neigh-neigh there, Forest Park offers an appealing variety of activities. Cool off quickly in 16 interactive fountains at the water playground through Sept. 22, or drop by the Swim Center, where a seasonal wading pool welcomes tots on nice days and everyone can enjoy open swim time and lessons in the heated, indoor pool. Dry off while visiting cute barnyard critters at the Animal Farm before exploring forested trails, sport courts, lawns and a large playground with swings.

Observe wild animals, bask on warm sandy beaches and play in shallow water on Everett’s popular island refuge, Jetty Island. Plan ahead and spend a full day for the best experience: After a day of soaking up the sun, stay late for a campfire program or leave in time to catch a sunset harbor tour. Pack your own water, food and shade, and bring games, good friends and patience for long ferry waits. Everett residents and groups of eight or more can call 425-257-8304 at least two days ahead to reserve their spot on the ferry. Check online for interpretive programs, low-tide schedule adjustments and more Jetty Island tips. Donations buoy this cooperative program between the Port of Everett and Everett Parks & Community Services.
