Phase 1 of the work to transform Rucker Avenue, between Everett and Hewitt Avenues, and a half a block of California is about to get underway. Construction is expected to begin July 8.
What to expect
- The contractor will begin work on the two block section of Rucker between Hewitt and Everett Avenues, a half a block of California and a one block section of Hoyt between Wall and Pacific.
- This section of road will be closed. No parking will be available on this section of roadway.
- Traffic will be routed to West Marine View Drive via Everett and Pacific Avenues.
- One lane will be kept open on each side for pedestrian use.
- The contractor will replace the water main first, then will reestablish the sidewalks and begin to construct the roadway.
- Work hours are likely to be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. most days. There will occasionally be a need to work later in the day. The City’s noise ordinance prohibits construction noise between 10 pm and 7 am weekdays and between 6 pm and 8 am on weekends unless a variance has been issued.
- Phase 1 of the project is expected to take 2 1/2 to 3 months to complete. All work is weather dependent.
- This phase of the project will have no impact to Everett Transit routes.
Fun fact
- The first permanent Euroamerican settler in the Everett area settled in the project area in 1861, and residential and commercial development on Rucker came along in the early 1900s. It is likely that some historical materials could be encountered during construction. The images included in this newsflash depict development in the project area in 1914. The prime contractor has an archaeological subcontractor on the project team to address any potentially significant historic findings.
