EVERETT, WA – This morning marked the historic start of commercial air service at Paine Field. Mayor Cassie Franklin joined local and regional leaders, including former Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson, to celebrate the new terminal and board the first flight out to Portland.
“This is a very exciting day for all of us,” said Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin. “For Everett, this means that our residents, families and businesses are now minutes away from an incredible travel experience to the destinations they frequent across the west coast and beyond.”
Alaska Airlines began flights from Paine Field today, March 4, and United Airlines will begin flights later this month.
Local business and community leaders worked for more than a decade to bring commercial air to Paine Field, connecting the region to popular destinations and business hubs. The land is owned by Snohomish County, but the new terminal was built and will be operated by Propeller Airports. Franklin thanked Propeller for their transformative investment in the community.
“What’s most exciting is that we get to welcome people from around the globe to this beautiful region,” said Franklin. “They are going to see everything we have to offer; whether you’re here for business or pleasure, this is the place to be.”
As Franklin shared in her recent State of Everett address, capitalizing on the business and tourism opportunities that come with commercial air service will be a top priority for the City in the coming years. The City’s economic development plan includes a special focus on revitalizing central and southwest Everett, and the airport will be a major component of that work.
