[ARCHIVED] Clothes for the Cause for AED’s for Everett Schools

July 28, 2015

Everett, WA – Everett Fire Department, Everett Medic One Foundation and the Nick of Time Foundation partners with Clothes for the Cause, a fundraising company that collects clothes in exchange for cash, for an event to raise money for AED’s for Everett Schools. These organizations are hosting the clothing and textile drive, accepting clothing and shoes of any kind, in any condition, until August 7th, 2015. Following the clothing drive, Clothes for the Cause will pick up the donations and provide Everett Medic One Foundation (who will purchase the AED’s for the schools) with the total of their fundraising effort, measured in dollars per pound.

Funds are being raised to buy a portable backpack Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for each middle school and high school in the Everett School District, 8 backpack AED’s total. The Everett School District has been proactive in keeping our kids heart safe by having multiple AEDs in all schools, including portable AEDs. Requiring CPR/AED training for all coaches and staff, and by partnering with the Everett Medic One Foundation to train high school students in CPR/AED use for close to 10 years. Additional portable backpack AEDs at each of these schools will allow quick access by having them on the bench or worn by the Athletic Trainers.

“We are thrilled to be able to help Everett School District,” said Susan Hovey “Clothes for the Cause and AED’s for Everett Schools make it easy for everyone in our community to contribute by collecting things, free of charge that our friends, family and neighbors already have in their houses.”
Items can be dropped off prior to the final collection event at the following locations.

Peoples Storage of Everett; 7909 Broadway, Everett WA 98203
Everett FD Station 1; 3619 Rucker Ave, Everett, WA 98201
Everett FD Station 5; 6801 Beverly, Everett, WA 98203
Everett FD Station6; 9520 Evergreen Way, Everett WA, 98204

The final collection event will be hosted at the Everett Mall on August 7, 2015 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. The drop off event will include the Nick of Time Hero Mobile and their volunteers teaching participants how to do CPR and use an AED, a visit with Everett fire fighters and more. The first 50 people to donate bags will receive a $10 Everett Mall gift card and for every 10 full bags donated between now and the final date people will be entered to win a $100 Everett Mall gift card (donated by the Everett Mall). Those that donate 15 bags prior to the event will be given a certificate good for one car wash at General Car Wash. In addition to garments, Clothes for the Cause accepts pairs of shoes, hats, gloves, towels, sheets, blankets, quilts, drapery, purses, belts, rugs and stuffed animals.

Thank you to our sponsors; The Everett Mall, Peoples Storage of Everett, Evergreen Printing & Graphics and General Carwash.

Through events, Clothes for the Cause gives community groups – churches, sports teams, school bands, and others – the opportunity to turn their friends and families’ unwanted clothes into cash, while promoting sustainability and charitable acts in their community.

Unlike the quintessential fundraiser that asks people to buy candy bars, flower bulbs or candles, Clothes for the Cause assists community groups and youth and makes a positive impact on the environment and in-need communities, without charging event participants a cent. Instead of decaying in landfills, donated items are re-worn, reused or ethically recycled both in the United States and abroad, based on best use.

Clothes for the Cause provides all necessary tools and materials to host a successful fundraiser, including informational brochures, letters and flyers to distribute to the community members, tired-and-true promotion tactics, and convenient pickup of donated items at the close of the fundraiser. Event organizers can structure their events to raise a wide range of funds to support a variety of community projects – from purchasing new soccer jerseys to rebuilding a community.
