Everett, WA - Local law enforcement will spread holiday cheer with local children during a shopping extravaganza at Everett’s Target.
This week, Everett Police will host the 4th Annual Heroes & Helpers giving some local children an opportunity to Shop with a Cop at the Everett Target. This special event will include over 175 Snohomish County children with a shopping trip to purchase gifts for the holidays. In addition to the Everett Police, Mill Creek Police, Monroe Police and Washington State Patrol Troopers will join in the festivities this year.
“Our community, family and friends have been overwhelming in their generosity. Last year we sponsored over 100 children, and had hoped to sponsor 110 this year. The fact that we can sponsor so many deserving children is amazing,” says event organizer Det. Jamie French. “I am extremely thankful to everyone who plays a part in this event - including donors, police officers, volunteers and especially the Everett Target.”
The children will spend time walking around the store with a local police officer, who helps them pick out holiday presents. They also receive goody bags, take photos with Santa, and enjoy a pizza dinner. The involved children have been pre-selected and referred to the program by area social service providers. They range in age from one month to 17 years-old.
“To see the smiles and hear laughter throughout the store is priceless,” says Det. French. “Nights like these are heartwarming as we see how many children purchase gifts for others, rather than for themselves. We get to witness the true holiday spirit.”
Heroes & Helpers is made possible by support of the Everett Police Department and donations from police unions, family, friends and community members.
