EVERETT, WA – Everett Transit riders will see new fares and routes in 2019. The changes are the first steps to implement the agency’s recently adopted long-range plan. The plan sets the agency on a path for long-term financial sustainability and ridership growth by focusing on service that is more direct, frequent, and fast.
Approved by the Everett City Council in October, the fares will increase in two stages, first in January and then in July. On Jan. 1, adult fares for single trips on fixed-routes and paratransit will increase to $1.50. Youth fares will increase to $1 and fares for seniors and people with disabilities will increase to $0.50.
Fares will again increase on July 1 to $2 for adults on fixed-routes and paratransit, $1.50 for youth. Fares for seniors and people with disabilities will remain at $0.50 in July.
After the fares are fully implemented in July, Everett Transit will still have the lowest fares among transit agencies in the Central Puget Sound region. Everett Transit is currently evaluating options for implementing a low-income fare alongside other regional partners.
On March 17, Everett Transit will also reconfigure much of its service. While Everett Transit’s highest ridership line, Route 7, will remain essentially unchanged, the agency will make significant changes to all of its other routes. A few of the notable changes include:
- Realigning Routes 3, 8, and 12 in South Everett to eliminate loops and instead provide more frequent, faster bi-directional service
- Running Route 6 with all-day and weekend service year-round, and extending it along the entire waterfront to College Station
- Eliminating Route 17 and running Route 8 on Colby from 41st Street to Casino Road
- Increasing the frequency of Route 29 to every 40 minutes and improving its travel time by no longer running it through the Valley View neighborhood and Eastmont Park & Ride
The updated routes will better serve several new destinations, including the new Paine Field Airport, Seaway Transit Center, YMCA in South Everett set to open in fall of 2019, and the growing Port of Everett waterfront development.
Everett Transit estimates the south-end routes will be faster end-to-end thanks to the elimination of loops and more direct routing. Routes 3, 6, 12 and 29 will have more bus trips each day.
