SMART concludes investigation of Arlington Police officer-involved shooting

SMART detectives have concluded their investigation into the officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 500 block of N Olympic Ave on February 14th.

The case has been forwarded to the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

The investigation was conducted by the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART), a team of detectives from various Snohomish County law enforcement agencies who respond to, and investigate, police use of force incidents.

Detectives with the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team continue interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence from the officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 500 block of N Olympic Ave on February 14th.

The initial disturbance call at about 5 a.m. stated a woman was in distress, laying on the street and screaming. After officers arrived and contacted her, the female ran to a nearby car where the officers followed and contacted her again. Witnesses indicated she exited the car and advanced on officers who tried unsuccessfully to stop her with the use of a Taser. Officers advised dispatch she had a knife, that shots were fired and requested aid. A knife was recovered at the scene.

The specifics of the contact and communication between the involved officers and 17 year-old female are still under investigation.

Evidence indicates a physical assault occurred between the female and her boyfriend prior to the 911 call. The boyfriend is an 18 year-old.

The car has been impounded and will be processed for evidence after a search warrant is received.

The female remains at Harborview Regional Medical Center in serious condition.

The person shot during the incident is 17 years-old female who is in critical condition at Harborview Regional Medical Center. A knife was recovered at the scene.

It has been determined that the female and male are in a dating relationship but the reason for the initial disturbance call remains under investigation.

Both involved Arlington police officers have been placed on administrative leave as is standard procedure. One officer is a 12 year veteran of Arlington Police Department and the other has been with the agency for two years.

ARLINGTON, Wash. - The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 500 block of N Olympic Ave. The incident started when officers were dispatched around 5 a.m. to a report of a disturbance between a male and a female. Arriving officers separated the two and reported the female was armed with a knife. The female was shot. She was treated by aid units and airlifted to Harborview Regional Medical Center.

The male and multiple witnesses will be interviewed by detectives.

The investigation is being conducted by the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, a team of detectives from various Snohomish County law enforcement agencies who respond to and investigate police use of force incidents.

More information will be provided when available. No further details are currently available.

N Olympic Ave from Division St to E 5th Ave is currently closed to the public for the investigation.
