Madhubani Painting – An Ancient Visual Art Form (Virtual)

Wednesday, November 3, 2021

6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Learn the ancient Indian art of Madhubani Painting with artist Deepti Agrawal, and create a colorful peacock drawing with simple materials.

Peacocks have a special place in the country of India. Apart from being the national bird, it has significantly found its place in different folk and classical art forms from primitive times. Let’s explore this regal bird in the Madhubani style which is a visual folk art native to Northern part of India. A limited number of supplies kits* will be available. Visit epls.org/kits to reserve one. See list below for supplies - you do not need a kit to participate.

Deepti Agrawal Mittal, artist and an educator, is a specialist of Madhubani Painting and has been practicing it since 1992. She is an MBA gold medalist and a former financial consultant at CB Richard Ellis. Deepti set out to spread her love for art by setting up an art house in 2015 called Deepti Designs Inc. Besides activities such as designing, collaborations, and exhibitions, the organization focuses on education and on non-profit activities. Deepti has been closely working with the state and city art councils to conduct workshops, demos and exhibitions on an on-going basis. She is the president of Friends of Asian Art Association, a nonprofit organization, and a speaker on Humanities Washington Speaker Bureau program.
